Experience of Operative Treatment of Multiple Hereditary Exostosis for Deformity of Forearm

Abstract
A patient with multiple hereditary exostosis may have any of several severe deformities of the forearm. The natural history of these deformities is progression, with variable weakness, functional impairment, and cosmetic deformity of the extremity.
We describe the results, after a follow up of 20 months and 8 months, in two patients who underwent surgical procedure: Corrective osteotomy and shortening of the radius and ulnar lengthening with Hoffman¢¥s external device.
Bowing of the radius and radial articular angle were corrected and ulnar lengthening was achieved 2.5 cm, 1.5cm respectively and dislocated radial head was nearly completely reduced.
Deformities of the forearm should be treated around 11 year old aggressively to prevent disability.
